The hydrolysis of cellulosic fiber used in papermaking by cellulase enzymes was studied as a function of fiber length and temperature. The rate of hydrolysis of the fines fraction increased with temperature but that of the longer fiber was relatively temperature independent. The binding of enzyme to the fiber was proportionately almost three times higher for the fines fraction. Binding of these enzymes to cellulose is known to be inversely temperature dependent, whereas the catalytic step should have a direct dependence on temperature. It is proposed that the two effects offset each other for the longer fiber where there is more free enzyme present as compared to the situation with fines. A similar effect was noted for the hydrolysis of cellulosic paper mill sludge where the rate of hydrolysis of the longer fiber was relatively temperature independent. A practical outcome is that the cost of heating long-fiber sludges to 50 °C, the reported optimum temperature for the enzyme, can be avoided. 相似文献

The gas permeability, which is one of the most important requirements served by coke, is dependent largely on the size distribution of the coke at the various zones in the blast furnace. This papers deals with breakage of coke when it travels from wharf to blast furnace. In this study, six different coal blend samples in the range of 23.6–25.0% volatile matter and 11.7–14.8% ash were studied in stamp charged coke making process (wet bulk density 1.15 t/m3). The coke samples were collected from battery no. 8 wharf, CK06 (conveyer belt) and auto sampler. All experiments were conducted on shatter machine and an attempt has been made to find out reasons for breakage of coke. Results indicate that the coke size degradation is function of transporting system and dropping height of coke from wharf to blast furnace. It was also found that in stamp charging condition, it is possible to improve yield of blast furnace grade coke even at higher composition balance index of coal blend (2.94–3.70). 相似文献

A study is reported of the average length of fibres crossing sections of different thickness in jute yarns of varying quality. The fibre length is shown to increase with a decrease in the thickness of yarn sections of all qualities. The need for standardization of the thickness of yarn sections in determining the average fibre length is stressed. On the basis of the results obtained, a possible explanation is suggested for the difference observed between cotton and man-made-fibre yarns on the one hand and jute and worsted yarns on the other with regard to the variations in unevenness with the number of fibres per cross-section. 相似文献

hapTEL, an interdisciplinary project funded by two UK research councils from 2007 to 2011, involves a large interdisciplinary team (with undergraduate and post-graduate student participants) which has been developing and evaluating a virtual learning system within an HE healthcare education setting, working on three overlapping strands. Strand 1 involves the technical development and evaluation of the hapTEL workstation which simulates clinical conditions for dental training including haptics (sense of touch). Strand 2 involves examining the traditional undergraduate curriculum and how this could benefit from the use of haptics. Strand 3 is concerned with the educational evaluation of the impact of the work carried out within Strands 1 and 2. Two theoretical frameworks (Entwistle, (1987) and Webb and Cox (2004)) have been used to identify as many factors as possible which could affect the impact of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) on the quality of the learning achieved. These frameworks have formed a foundation for measuring the impact of TEL on curriculum change, teachers’ pedagogical practices, students’ learning and on institutional practices. A range of quantitative and qualitative methods were designed, piloted and evaluated in order to measure the impact of TEL on teaching and learning; and to have a rich and robust data set which also addresses the variables in the frameworks. The results from using these frameworks show that institutional and departmental factors should be considered when evaluating the impact of TEL in higher education and that these had a major influence on the design and curriculum integration of the hapTEL systems. We have also shown that by involving the end users from the beginning enabled not only an enhancement of the students’ learning experiences but also a modification to the traditional curriculum itself and the successful integration of TEL within a very traditional undergraduate higher education dental curriculum. The conclusions from this paper confirm earlier reviews of researching TEL that technology integration is extremely complex and the related research requires a comprehensive approach of both quantitative and qualitative methods if one is to take account of the range of variables identified by theoretical frameworks. Finally, repeating the range of empirical investigations for a second year enables researchers to validate the effectiveness of the methods used in the initial year and thereby maximise the reliability and generalisability of the research outcomes. 相似文献

The component analysis of some chemical parameters such as half‐life period, pH, salinity, total organic carbon (TOC), clay mineral concentration (Kaolinite, Illite, Montmorrillonite) and the elemental concentrations (Al, Fe, Ti) showed that only three components collectively retained 98% of variation of the original data. The first component carries maximum co‐variance with salinity and TOC, the second component is due to clay‐montmorrillonite, and the third component is attributed to TOC and Fe. The first component accounted for 69%, the second 28% and the third for 3% of total variation. The impact of TOC on the stability of pesticide, DDVP is much more pronounced by its negative covariance with the half life period as revealed by the first principal component. 相似文献

A study was done of jute composite using a polymer matrix of epoxidized Novolac resin (ENR), diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)–based epoxy, and their blends with different weight percentages of the resins. It was found that on blending ENR with DGEBA, the storage modulii at room temperature are enhanced by about 100% or more in the case of 30 and 40% ENR‐containing matrices, whereas the enhancement in the case of 20 and 12% ENR‐containing matrices is only 50% that of the pure matrix. It was also observed that the tan δ peak heights of the composites containing 30 and 40% ENR are closer to that of 20% ENR‐containing composite. The probable explanation drawn on the basis of experimental findings of DMA and mechanical analysis is that by blending ENR with DGEBA epoxy it is possible to manufacture jute composites with increased stiffness without sacrificing their ductility. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In a wireless sensor network (WSN), random occurrences of faulty nodes degrade the quality of service of the network. In this paper, we propose an efficient fault detection and routing (EFDR) scheme to manage a large size WSN. The faulty nodes are detected by neighbour node’s temporal and spatial correlation of sensing information and heart beat message passed by the cluster head. In EFDR scheme, three linear cellular automata (CA) are used to manage transmitter circuit/ battery condition/microcontroller fault, receiver circuit fault and sensor circuit fault representation. On the other hand, L-system rules based data routing scheme is proposed to determine optimal routing path between cluster head and base station. The proposed EFDR technique is capable of detecting and managing the faulty nodes in an efficient manner. The simulation results show 86% improvement in the rate of energy loss compared to an existing algorithm. 相似文献
